Dr. U.N.B. Rao, PHD (IIT Delhi)

IPS(Retd) Founder Chairman

Dear Friends,
We are happy that the Trust could continued to function for almost 25 years, despite some times, the resource crunch and some other times, crisis in man power. Of late, even the social workers have started insisting on heavy ‘pay packages’. Problem of emoluments arise especially in case of government-funded projects where the ceilings are comparatively low. NGOs with good standing are turning into social enterprises whereas mediocre organizations are either becoming defunct or taking to mere paper work. Two years ago, we thought we should also take to the model of ‘social enterprises’, but soon realized that our target population, being deprived and marginalized segments, cannot meet bigger demands of fees and perks. We, having been committed to social service, may have to carefully keep a balance between income and expenditure.

Dear Friends,
I was not at all interested in the activities of UVCT when it was established. I was too withdrawn and pre-occupied with my own grief even to think of it. Though, of late, I am getting more and more involved, sometimes feel skeptical. I keep asking myself, why should we do all this? A small voice I hear which says ‘Yes!’. It was my child Vikram who wanted to serve society. He used to say that once he takes a job, we would be freed to spend all our time helping people.

Mr. Kapil Chopra

Eminent Industrialist (Bentex Electricals)

Dear Readers,
I have been associated with UVCT for several years. The Trust is involved in something constructive and different from the beaten track. Its focus on dropouts and under-achievers made me think seriously about the vulnerability of this huge population. As an industrialist, my vision is to provide empowerment to the youths which in turn would diminish, if not completely eradicate, stress and strain both in the individual and the society. With this aim in view, I have been providing on-job training to the UVCT students in my industrial set-up and other industries in Naraina industrial belt. We also help, guide and assist them in their self-employment.

Dear Friends,
Our TRUST has been striving for the last 25 years, with a mission to find ways and means to transform our ever-growing population from a “Burden of Population” into an “Asset of Human Resources” and thereby, help in ensuring better utilization of India’s demographic dividend. We believe in strengthening the young adults through “empowerment” rather than “control”, and endeavors to help them to become socially responsible and economically productive citizens of India and the world. UVCT has achieved these objectives through its 14 centers operating in 6 states of India and alliance partners. UVCT has also achieved creditable success in programmes for women empowerment and in spreading awareness to tackle the menace of HIV/AIDS. We are especially thankful to our donors and government organizations, without whose help, we could not have organized such a pan-India presence.
